Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, little town that is a bit sleepy. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of diverse communities. Many who've never heard of it often confuse it with a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often mentioned, but her brief visit to the West Island was not. Brugel became a young woman in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. When she was a child she hoped to become professional performer, however an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." As I grew older than my male companions, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. For Brugel it was because of the advice from her drama teacher at high school that led her in the direction she wanted. It was the teacher who recommended she pursue a role for the school's annual production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the main role for Anne of Green Gables after she had a go at. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Over the last 20 years, Brugel's work been seen on the small and big screen. Her work gained most recognition when she landed her part as Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian in the Season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
